The district of Kannur in the state of Kerala has a long and proud history. The town that serves as its headquarters, known simply enough for short around these parts – or sometimes more elaborately perhaps- goes by names such as Cannanore during British rule when it was an important trading port before becoming part of Dutch colonization later on down through centuries since then all while maintaining much affection towards their mother tongue Malayalam which many residents still speak fluently today despite not being native speakers like me!
To the east the district is bounded by the Western Ghats, which forms the border with the state of Karnataka (Kodagu district). The Arabian Sea lies to the west. Kannur is one of the most urbanized district in Kerala, with more than 50% of its residents living in urban areas. Kannur is the second-largest urbanized city in Kerala after Cochin.
